Troopers raise $5,500 for camp
LEWISBURG — The staff at the Lewisburg Applebee’s Grill and Bar, which is managed by The Rose Group, partnered with the Milton State Police Troopers on Feb. 22 and successfully raised more than $5,500 during their 11th consecutive Celebrity Service event, a fundraiser where state troopers man the bar, serve food and donate 100 percent of their tips to support Camp Cadet, a week-long program where teens learn integral lessons through rigorous boot-camp like drills.
The goal of their fundraising is to minimize the cost of the camp for each camper, and to ensure they can provide the educational and fun camp experience to as many kids in the community as possible. The tips that the officers were able to collect this year totaled $5,500, bringing the total raised during their 11 years of partnership to more than $71,500.
“Each year, we are humbled by the outpouring of support from the Lewisburg community,” says Jeff Warden, CEO of The Rose Group. “This program supports healthy lifestyles in our community, and we’re honored to be a part of this effort. We hope the campers have a great summer this year, and we thank the community and our state troopers for their dedication.”
Established in 2004, Camp Cadet is a week-long live-in camp where boys and girls ages 12-15 of Northumberland, Union, Snyder and Montour counties learn alcohol and tobacco avoidance, self-esteem, discipline, teamwork and violence prevention through military drills, classes, demonstrations and guidance from federal, state and local law enforcement officers. Due to the generosity of fundraising events such as the “Celebrity Service Event,” Camp Cadet campers are only charged a $35 processing fee.
